Hotel Grand Matej is situated in a historical centre of Banska Stiavnica which is the oldest and the most significant mining town in Slovakia. Banska Stiavnica is well known for its cultural sights, galleries and museums, mines and numerous lakes – beautiful nature, thermal springs and skiing areas. Picturesque lanes, interlaced with simple mining houses and medieval palace in the square inspire to take a walk and discover secret passages all over this delightful place. A rarity of this town is also registered on the list of world cultural and natural heritage UNESCO. The town is surrounded by Stiavnicke hills which offer plentiful opportunities for hiking and mountain biking, game keeping and fishing as well as horse riding. For those who plan to spend their holiday in winter there has been built a brand new skiing resort with a four seated cableway departing right from in front of the hotel.
