Kosice and country circulation

City Kosice is the most important centre of eastern Slovakia. Cultural relics of Kosice are situated in historic centre of the city. Main Square is considered as one of the most beautiful squares in Slovakia. The dominant feature of the square is gothic St. Elisabeth Cathedral. Mainly in summer a park with singing fountain is visited. Unique exhibits of Slovak Technical Museum are exposed in baroque-classicistic Rakoczi’s palace. Kysuce

Many tourists have already smelled out this region. In summer you can go to walking tour at well marked tourist paths. They offer also bicycle lanes, which go through almost whole Kysuce. The centre of Kysuce is Cadca which is a point of departure of tours to Javorniky and Turzovska vrchovina. At church Nanebovzatia Panny Marie (Assumption of Mary into heaven) in Turzovka there are several pictures of painter Klemens. Hill Zivcak is a pilgrimage place with a chapel and healing springs. Kysuce offers also strangeness of nature, e.g. petrol spring called Korniansky, set of rocks called Klokocovske skalie. Liptov

Liptov lies in north of Slovakia, is bordered by Velka Fatra, Chocske vrchy, crest of Zapadne Tatry (West Tatras) and by Nizke Tatry (Low Tatras) in south. Liptovsky Mikulas is a centre of Liptov. The oldest monument of the town is early gothic church of St. Nicolaus (Sv. Mikulas). Near to the town are situated well-known Demanova caves. Summits of hills Chopok and Dumbier offer views of Slovakia. Jasna is well-known ski centre. There is possibility to see many wooden churches in the region. Novohrad

Novohrad lies in Southern Slovak basin (Juhoslovenska kotlina), in southern part of central Slovakia and Banska Bystrica region. Krupinska planina, Slovenske rudohorie and Cerova vrchovina in the East extend to the region. The south of the region has plain character. The centre of the region is town Lucenec. In the territory there is a plenty of archaeological excavations from Stone Age. In summer attractive is the water dam called Ruzina. There are some monuments in the territory - churches and manor houses. Whole region is associated with glass tradition. In Filakovo there is a Filakovo castle and in the region is situated scenic castle called Somoska, near which is Stone waterfall.

Orava

Orava is bordered by West Tatras, Chocske vrchy, Velka Fatra. The territory of Orava belongs to region called Central Beskydy. Orava offers many possibilities for winter and summer tourism. The water dam Orava is favourite place for summer recreation. Water sports, fishing, sailing by water dam and walking are attractive for summer recreation. In winter it is cross-country skiing or skiing on ski slopes. A geothermal spring with possibility to yearlong bathing is in Oravice. The Orava’s castle situated on impressive rocky cliff holds visitors of Orava interest as well as a plenty of sacral historical monuments and monuments of folk architecture do.

Podpolanie

Podpolanie is a region in the middle of Slovakia with good conditions for tourism and is great at rock cliffs, rock walls and cliffs. There are also suitable conditions for horseback riding and flying. In winter there are very good conditions for skiing and cross-country skiing. The highland massif Polana with villages situated at the foothill is a dominant of the territory. The lazy are places full of silence and peace. This region has good conditions also for hunting. The centre of Podpolanie is Detva and Hrinova. In their neighbourhood lie water dams which offer fishing. In the region Podpolanie there are marked bicycle lanes suitable for mountain bicycles. Museum in Detva is orientated on documentation of folk art.

Podunajsko

Podunajsko lies in the South of Slovakia along river Danube. From Bratislava to Komarno across the Danube villages there is a bicycle lane which is a part of an international bicycle lane. There are suitable conditions for summer tourism, water sports and fishing. Active rest is provided in thermal swimming pools in Dunajska Streda, Patince and Sturovo, where is many sports fields and huge pool formed to sea cove with surge. Churches are one of interesting cultural monuments and water mills are touristic attraction. The centre of Podunajsko is Komarno.

Ponitrie

Ponitrie lies in river-basin of Nitra, partly Vah and Zitava. In top part there are towns Bojnice, Prievidza, Handlova, in middle part Topolcany, Nitra, in bottom Nove Zamky, Surany, Sala. In the West it borders with Myjava, in the south-west with Zahorie. Ponitrie is interesting by natural beauties and cultural monuments. In the territory there are also places for summer rest, e.g. water dam Duchonka, swimming pool Cajka in Bojnice... Castle of Bojnice is national cultural monument and also seat of a museum. It is one of the most beautiful and the most visited castle in Central Europe...

Spis

Spis belongs to coveted places of Slovakia. In the region you will find rare historical monuments, which are unique in Europe. In the territory there is Slovak Paradise (Slovenky Raj) with touristic paths of wooden ladders through gulleys and waterfalls. In summer there is possibility to bath in Vysne Ruzbachy, where are mineral springs. In old-time Levoca at St. Jacob’s church there are special carving works. Saris

Saris is historical territory in northern part of Eastern Slovakia. Main centres of the region are nowadays cities Presov and Bardejov. Bardejov is a city with well-preserved town historical centre with old-time houses. There is also spa with cold mineral water, where illnesses of digestixe mechanism and material changes are healed. In northern part of the region are situated rare wooden churches. Historical centre of Presov is monumental reservation. Complex of objects for mining and pulping of salt was preserved in Solivar. Ruin of Saris castle is situated near to Velky Saris.

Tatras

Mountain Tatras lies in Northern part of Slovakia, on the border with Poland and it extends also to Poland. Tatras are divided into West, High and Belianske Tatras. In 1949 Tatras were declared for first national park in Slovakia (called TANAP) and in 1993 were together with Poland side of Tatras declared by UNESCO organization for “Biospheric reservation Tatras”. High Tatras has unique combination of natural beauties. There are very good conditions for summer tourism with well marked touristic paths for exacting tourists and also for easier walking with children. There are ideal conditions for climbing, cycling and for skiing in winter. The centres of High Tatras are Strbske Pleso, Stary Smokovec and Tatranska Lomnica. Turiec

Turiec lies in centre of Slovakia in Turcianska basin, which is surrounded by mountain of High and Low Fatra and by Kremnicke vrchy in the South. Low and High Fatra are attractive for tourists, cyclists and are also suitable for paragliding and climbing. Interesting natural shapes, e.g. Sutovsky waterfall, carst shapes Gadera and many others are situated here. Distinctive villages with little houses, country curias and manor-houses are here. The centre of Turiec is town Martin with rich cultural tradition. In winter season skiers use a chairlift to Martinske hole, important centre of tourism and skiing. Zahorie

Zahorie lies in western part of Slovakia and borders with Austria by river Morava and Czech Republic. In southeast is bordered by ridge of Small Carpathas (Male Karpaty). Majority of territory takes lowland Zahorska Nizina, which in the North borders with Dolnomoravsky Uval and White Carpathas (Biele Karpaty). According to relatively plain character of country Zahorie is ideal for cyclotourism. Due to location of Zahorie a connection of net of bicycle lanes to bordering states is obvious. Net of bicycle lanes is based on 4 bicycle lanes. Many cultural monuments - churches, manor houses are situated in the territory of Zahorie. Healing water with high contain of hydrosulphide wells forth in Smrdaky. The water is suitable mainly for dermal illnesses healing. The centre of Zahorie is Senica. Pilgrimage place Sastin-Straze with Basilica of the Mater Dolorosa, situated in this territory, is also well-known...

Zamagurie

Zamagurie lies in northern part of Spis, to the northeast of High Tatras. Tourist centre of Zamagurie is Cerveny Klastor. The village grew next to the cloister, by which is St. Anthon’s church. National park Pieniny, which is great at unusual natural beauties and historical and cultural monuments, is part of Zamagurie. The biggest attraction is sluice on traditional Goral’s wooden rafts down the river Dunajec, which flows through deep canyon of Pieniny. Except of sluice on traditional raft there is possible to go down the river by own or borrowing boats. In summer months woodlands offers a plenty of forest fruits and mushrooms. Fishermen have possibility of beautiful fishing in clean water of Dunajec, Lipnicky and Rieky. Skiers will found good terrains for glissades and cross-country skiing in scenic country in winter. You can also enjoy cyclotourism in Zamagurie, because bicycle lane of Spis and many others marked bicycle lanes drive through this region...
